Quinteto Galma – 1st Prize with Special Mention, Chamber Ensemble

Quinteto Galma was born as a chamber music project at the Centro Superior de Música del País Vasco (Musikene) in 2021 under the tutelage of Sergio Barranco. The group is composed of Inés Vázquez Santos (flute), Ana Teresa Sanz González (oboe), Silvia Ferro Fernández (clarinet), Roi Guzmán Gómez (horn), and Pablo Castellanos Alloza (bassoon).
The members of the quintet began their training at the institutions CIEM Federico Moreno Torroba, CMUS Santiago de Compostela, Escola de Altos Estudos Musicais and CIM Padre Antonio Soler. During their time at Musikene, they have studied with renowned teachers such as Álvaro Octavio, Miguel Ángel Angulo, Christian Wetzel, Laura Marcos, José Luis Estellés, Sergio Barranco, Rodolfo Epelde, Óscar Sala, David Tomàs and Vicente Alario. Some of them have won prizes in competitions like Novos Talentos Musicais and the Musikene Soloist Selection. They are also members of several Spanish youth orchestras, including the Joven Orquesta Nacional de España (JONDE), the Orquesta Joven Sinfónica de Galicia (OJSG), the Euskal Herriko Gazte Orkestra (EGO), the Joven Orquesta y Coro de Madrid (JORCAM) and the Joven Orquesta Leonesa (JOL). Additionally, they participate in international orchestras such as the Alto Minho Youth Orchestra (AMYO), the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Youth Orchestra. They have also collaborated with professional orchestras, including the Orquesta Sinfónica de Bilbao, the Euskadiko Orkestra, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia and the Sinfonie Orchester Berlin.
The Quintet has been involved in various initiatives within the Basque music scene, performing 20th and 21st century music, including works by the composer Jesús Echeverría. In 2023, they took part in the tribute to the composer from Zarautz, Francisco Escudero, commemorating his passing as part of the Gure Sortzaileak Gogoan (The Legacy of Our Composers) cycle, performing the piece “Gnosis” for woodwind quintet. The ensemble has brought its repertoire to various prestigious venues, receiving an enthusiastic reception from audiences, including a performance at the Kursaal Auditorium in Donostia.
Recently, they were awarded First Prize in the Gabriel Fauré Music World Competition 2024 in the Advanced B category for chamber music. They were also finalists in the 17th National Chamber Music Competition – National Spring Art Festival Albox 2025. Currently, Galma Quintet continues to develop new projects, exploring a diverse repertoire.
